Position Title: Risk Management Advisor

Reports to: Director of Risk Management

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt



The Risk Management Advisor position is for experienced insurance or risk managers who will be working collaboratively with commercial clients and their employees’ workers comp claims. You will develop and implement risk management programs by analyzing loss trends, coordinating safety advisors, and reviewing claims with clients. Our Risk Management Advisors are an integral part of servicing our clients and helping them to improve their claim frequency and outcomes. This is a consultative and team-oriented role.


The ideal candidate has a minimum of five years related experience and must hold an active workers compensation adjustor’s license. You have a working and up-to-date knowledge of Vermont state workers compensation laws and are looking to expand your expertise through risk management and workers compensation designations. Must be able to work collaboratively and communicate effectively on your team and with clients regularly.


Essential Responsibilities

•Strategize with insurance company adjustors, attorneys, and the clients on necessary and best steps to handling and closing workers compensation claims
•Work regularly with the client to establish and maintain best workers compensation best practices, methods of controlling losses, critical paths to closure, return to work programs, and occupational health relationships
•Review clients’ loss trends and compliance related issues and implement strategic planning and initiatives through FOCUS plans
•Coordinate loss prevention programs with the safety advisor team to improve clients’ claim frequencies and outcomes, understanding and communicating the benefit to both the client and insurance company
•Maintain resources and information to educate clients on workers compensation best practices, present training classes through webinars and seminars or client meetings
•Develop relationships with regional medical network, workers compensation providers and various roles in claims process
•Educate and present to prospective and current clients on the benefits of Hickok & Boardman’s Risk Management Value Added Services
